GENERAL INFORMATION
It is advisable when you start training your dog that the same one handler teaches the dog, either here at dog training classes or at home. Introducing more than one handler, especially with a puppy can cause it to become confused. To train your dog you will need patience, understanding and hard-work. During dog training classes we can train the handler to train his/her dog, we do not train your dog for you. Homework is important, even ten minutes, two or three times daily, will be enough for a young dog or puppy.  You can then increase this time as your dog becomes advanced. You can practice training your dog in your house, garden or in the middle of a walk.

To start with teach your dog one exercise at a time until it is understood.  Avoid doing lots of exercises at once or progressing too quickly.  If your dog gets bored or it is just not interested in training at any given time, do one easy, successful exercise (e.g. Sit) and finish for the day. Dogs cannot tell us how they feel and they get off days just like us. More importantly, if you aren’t in the right frame of mind, then avoid training your dog. Never lose your temper with your dog! Make sure your dog knows what is expected by always using commands when training. Dogs learn commands by repetition and reward. We train using play motivated techniques.

We hope that you and your dog will enjoy training with us and we wish you every success with your training. Please contact Helen if you have any particular problems or need specific advice.
